BitRock builds off-grid gas generation adjacent to the gas source and consumes that power locally as high-value compute output — establishing cash flow first with mature workloads, then progressively upgrading toward AI compute.

The Model

Gas to power to compute, vertically integrated

The all-in power price of ~US$0.03/kWh is well below industrial grid tariffs and forms the core, through-cycle cost moat.

Gas supply

Purchase from gas retailers or the Bow River gas co-op, or acquire existing gas fields and wells and tap gas at the wellhead.

Generation

Rapidly deploy skid-mounted gas gensets (Yuchai, Weichai PowerGen, CAT Rental Power, Aggreko and similar) for off-grid self-supply.

Compute — two revenue lines

A | self-mining Bitcoin. B | AI/HPC compute colocation, where the client brings its own GPUs.

Circular use

Data-center waste-heat recovery feeding green cultivation — a planned extension segment.

Operating Track Record

The full chain is already running

The partner has already built and operates a live facility in this area: multiple skid-mounted gas gensets (Weichai PowerGen, CAT Rental Power, Aggreko) lined up along the yellow gas pipeline, ASIC miners running at full load, with a record of stable operation through extreme winter cold.

This proves the full chain — gas intake, skid generation, hall deployment and off-grid O&M — actually works. The project is a scaled replication of a proven model, not a paper plan.

Modular and easily replicated, with quick government approvals and simple generation operations.

Equipment delivery cadence

~4 weeks

After down payment and finalization, first shipment begins in ~3 weeks, shipping weekly; Phase 1 equipment delivered within ~4 weeks.

Natural-gas supply

The WCSB is Canada's main gas basin — high output with limited takeaway. Sparse population, limited local consumption and constrained takeaway keep prices persistently below major North American hubs. Newell County is one of Alberta's largest oil-and-gas counties (2022 natural-gas output 3.1 billion m³, 8th province-wide), with abundant, nearby supply; the local Bow River gas co-op also provides pipeline gas.

Cold climate & natural cooling

Cold winters, cool summers and dry conditions year-round. Naturally low temperatures aid cooling with low PUE — ideal conditions for data centers and mining.

Off-grid self-supply

Off-grid self-supply avoids grid transmission and distribution fees and interconnection queues. Alberta has capped data-center grid access, with the Phase II queue extending to ~2027. Alberta's AI Data Center Strategy encourages bring-your-own-power (BYOP), with off-grid facilities exempt from the 2% data-center levy.

Fiber access & logistics

Alberta SuperNet fiber passes nearby for high-speed network access. A province-wide highway network supports fast, efficient equipment transport and modular deployment, and a province-wide pipeline network means gas can be tapped nearby without long-distance transport.

Tax & policy advantages

Alberta's combined corporate income tax is 23% (federal 15% + provincial 8%), the lowest in Canada. Off-grid self-supply under 75 MW is exempt from the 2% data-center levy. Accelerated depreciation (CCA Class 43 at 30% for power equipment; Class 50 at 55% for computing equipment, declining balance) defers cash taxes. Alberta has no provincial sales tax — only 5% GST, fully creditable as input tax.

Local support & corridors

The site sits directly on Canada's east–west arteries — the Trans-Canada Highway 1 and the CP Rail mainline. Premier Danielle Smith is herself the MLA for the Brooks–Medicine Hat riding, and local government strongly supports the energy and data-center sectors.
